The Coconut Cult Review: Is Probiotic Coconut Yogurt Worth $25?!

coconut_cult

Twenty-five dollars?! I nearly fell over when I saw the price tag on the jar of The Coconut Cult I just picked up. Who the heck pays that much for some dairy-free yogurt?!

Me, apparently. (Yeah, that’s right, this post is in no way sponsored! I used my hard earned cash for this one.)

In any other situation, I would have put the absurdly expensive jar back on the shelf. However, I had just driven 5 miles out of my way just to buy this dang yogurt, so I begrudgingly paid up.

So what's the deal with this yogurt?

The Coconut Cult is a dairy-free coconut yogurt that is packed with probiotics (25 billion per serving) and it’s wildly popular among wellness influencers on Instagram.

I’ve heard so many people rave about it, so curiosity got the best of me and I knew I had to try it.

After purchasing my jar, I took it home and immediately took a taste test. FYI there are 3 flavors of The Coconut Cult and I bought the Original as that was the only one in stock.

I scooped a few spoonfuls of the coconut cult into a bowl and topped it with fresh raspberries, granola, chia, hemp seeds, and peanut butter. Just like how all the influencers do it.

Pro tip: because The Coconut Cult has so many probiotics (25 billion) it is recommended to start off slow and only have a few tablespoons at a time. It’s good to see how your body reacts to it first because it could cause some unpleasant digestive effects. However, I experienced no issues, so you never know!

Initial Reaction

After tasting The Coconut Cult for the first time, I wasn't sure about it. The texture was much different than I expected it to be. I thought it would be super thick and creamy, but it wasn't. I don't really know how to describe it, but the texture reminded me more of applesauce than it did thick yogurt.

As for the taste, I really liked it. It had a pretty mild flavor and went great with all the toppings I added.

After my first bowl of it, I concluded that the yogurt was good, but I couldn't see myself buying again because of how expensive it was. It didn't seem that great for being that much money. I even posted an Instagram post about it, saying I'd probably never buy it again.

A change of heart?

Although my first reaction was not great, I started craving the Coconut Cult shortly after eating my first bowl of it (typical Mikaela). I made another bowl the very next morning and after that, I became hooked.

Despite wanting to let my expensive jar last awhile, I ended up eating it almost every day and finished the whole jar in 7 days. Welp…

I guess you can say I changed my mind!

A few days later, I bought myself a second jar. I went to the Berkely Bowl market and found it there for a little bit cheaper at $20, so I figured that was slightly more reasonable. They had both the Original and Coconut Cream flavors in stock so I decided to try the Coconut Cream this time.

To my surprise, the Coconut Cream flavor is even yummier than the original! It's a bit more sour and creamier. It tastes so good that I have to stop myself from eating too much of it.

One thing to keep in mind though is that Coconut Cult contains a high amount of probiotics at 25 billion per serving. If you think about it that way, Coconut Cult could be better compared to a probiotic supplement rather than a traditional yogurt, which helps justify the price a bit more.

Final Verdict

I still think The Coconut Cult is too expensive, but I do really like the taste and think it is a great healthy food. I would recommend it, but due to the price, I think it is best as a special treat item rather than something I'd pick up each week.

For now, I’ll plan on eating a spoonful or two as a healthier dessert option and top it with berries, hemp seeds, and almond butter.
