Activewear review: Outdoor Voices
Like any 20-something who loves fitness, I have a weakness for activewear. I own more leggings than what I know what to do with, but that will never stop me from wanting to try out a new brand or get the latest style.
Of course, Instagram is the number one contributor to my addiction. I am constantly exposed to new brands and styles of activewear by scrolling through my feed. And some days, it takes some serious restraint to prevent me from buying everything in sight.
One of the brands that I have been most tempted to buy from is Outdoor Voices. Their leggings and matching kits always stand out in my feed due to the soft colors and sophisticated looks.
It seems that most activewear is black, but Outdoor Voices leggings are a breath of fresh air with soft pinks, blues, greens, and creams. You can get $20 off your first order of $100+ here.
For months I peeked at the website, yearning to get my hands on a pair of their leggings, but I was always turned off by the hefty price tag.
One day though, I realized that they sell kits, where you can get a two-piece outfit for around the same price as one pair of leggings! For women, there are 3 different types of kits:
1. Recreation - designed for light activities like hiking, walking and for everyday-wear.
2. Studio - for yoga, dance, and pilates
3. Tech - for sweaty workouts
After choosing a kit category, you then get to pick the styles of the two pieces. I LOVE the way the website is designed because it allows you to see how each top option looks with each bottom option! This allows you to see exactly how the outfit will look and gives you the freedom to create your own look.
The available options differ depending on the kit, but you generally get to choose between a few different styles of sports bras, a tank top, long-sleeved shirt, short-sleeved shirt, and sweatshirt.
For bottoms, you can choose between various legging lengths (full-length, 7/8, cropped), legging patterns, spandex shorts, or sweats.
The best part is, most kits cost $100, which is a good deal considering most of the leggings individually cost $85-$95 and the bras cost $50-60. The only downside is that not all of the color options are available for the kits, but there are still plenty of options.
If you choose the sweatshirt or the sweats though, those cost an extra $20 each. Some of the options for the tech kit are also an additional $20.
Once I found out about the kits, there was no turning back. I had to get one. It was a tough decision, but I decided to go with the rec kit, mainly because it had the most options.
I chose the two-tone Navy leggings with the matching Athena Crop. After selecting my choices, I had the option to add-on other items for $10 each. The options including an Outdoor Voices hat, water bottle, or tote. While I was very tempted, I decided to hold off.
When my order arrived several days later, I couldn't wait to try them on. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit and how great the material felt. The material was unlike any other activewear I had. Once I put them on, I didn't want to take them off!
Since I got rec kit, the items are designed mostly for every-day wear and for light activities. I'd say the kit is absolutely perfect for wearing around town to run errands or for hiking.
I have also worn the kit for more vigorous workouts like indoor cycling. The bra and leggings were still fine for the super sweaty workout, but I will say that they definitely aren't as sweat-wicking as others.
For the most part, I tend to wear the outfit for weight lifting or just for wearing it around the house because it is so damn comfortable.
Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of my outfit and will definitely order from Outdoor Voices again!
