8 Healthy snacks you'll actually love to eat
Raise your hand if you love snacks! If you aren't raising your hand, you must be lying or have some sort of superpower. SNACKS ARE ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF LIFE!
In my opinion, snacks are the greatest types of food. They keep me full and energized so that I can get through the day without getting hangry. And trust me, you don't want to see me hangry.
If calories and health weren't a thing, I'd happily live off snacks and nothing else. But, as someone who values healthy living, I know that would be a terrible idea.
That being said, I'm always on a quest to find healthy snacks that are low in sugar and calories but also taste good.
Below is a list of some of the snacks I've been loving lately. They all meet my strict criteria when it comes to taste, ingredients, and nutritional value. I bought these at Sprouts Farmer's Market and Natural Grocers, but you can find some of these at your traditional grocery store.

1. The Good Bean Crunchy Chickpeas
I love these roasted chickpeas because they are so satisfyingly crunchy! I love crunchy things like chips and crackers, but I know I shouldn't eat them too often. So, crunchy chickpeas are a great alternative. These have 6 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and are gluten and nut free.
Some roasted chickpeas have a lot of fat from the oil used to roast them, but these from The Good Bean only have 3g, which is low compared to other brands.
You can eat these straight out of the bag or sprinkle them on top of your salad. They come in a small pouch that can easily fit in your backpack if you're headed to work or traveling. I brought these on every trip I took this summer and they helped me stay on track!
2. Hope Spicy Avocado Hummus
Hummus and veggies make another great snack. I love this hummus from Hope because it is a local brand and has all clean ingredients. A 2 tablespoon serving size is only 50 calories and there is no sugar. Hope Hummus comes in a lot of unique flavors, so you will never be bored with just plain hummus. My personal favorites are this Spicy Avocado and the Thai Coconut Curry.
I typically scoop a serving size of hummus into a small glass container with some carrots and bring it with me to work. It makes a great mid-morning or late-afternoon snack.
3. Better Bean Co. Cuban Black Beans
Better Bean Co beans are delicious! They make several delicious flavors and they are great as a snack, side, or even a topping on your salad. With 7 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, plus a whole bunch of vitamins and minerals, these beans make a great choice. This particular flavor is not spicy, but there are a few that are.
If I'm at work, I'll use my divided glass lunch container to bring these beans as a side or I'll just put them on top of my salad.
4. Natural Grocers Chunks of Energy Honey Pistachio
I'm always looking for snacks that are easy to eat on the go and these energy bites do just the trick. I got these from Natural Grocers, who makes a bunch of different energy bites and fruit and nut mixes. I typically grab two bites and eat them before a workout because they give me the energy I need without making me too full.
5. Brown rice cakes
These by themselves aren't the most satisfying or substantial, but there are so many great toppings you can add to them. I usually add dairy-free cream cheese with chives and top with smoked salmon. Other combinations you can try are avocado with cracked pepper, peanut butter with banana wheels, or almond butter with chia seeds.
If I bring this to work, I'll leave the rice cake in a ziplock and add the toppings just before eating, that way it doesn't get soggy.
6. Skinny Pop sea salt and pepper popcorn
39 calories per cup, need I say more? I am a popcorn fiend and have always loved it. Skinny Pop makes it easy to enjoy the snack I love without the added calories from movie theater butter. I typically fill a small ziplock with this and bring it to work for a mid-day snack.
7. Enlightened roasted broad bean crisps
This is a new one I tried recently, but I'm already hooked! LIke the chickpeas, you can eat these out of the bag or you can use them as a topping. So far, I really like them on top of smoothies or oatmeal bowls. They have 7 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and are only 100 calories per serving. These are cinnamon flavored, but they come in other flavors including sea salt, wasabi, sriracha, and BBQ.
8. Siete grain-free nacho tortilla chips
After seeing these all over Instagram, I had to give them a try. While they aren't the healthiest on this list, they are very satisfying and still better than traditional tortilla chips. I got the nacho flavor and they are delicious! The nacho flavor is a light seasoning that gives them a little spice. These are great to snack on by themselves, or dipped into salsa or chili.
